ZHIHUI ZHANG

My recent art practice, which contains both still images(Inkjet print, film photography)and moving images(found film clips and short videos shot by iPhone).By combining the projection with the object, the image forms a semi-transparent but multi-layered structure, in an attempt to make the viewer pay more attention to the connection that I built.

In my snapshots collections, those common scenes are often unconsciously created by anonymous. These creators only bring their instinctive behaviors into the existing scene but this kind of behavior addresses and accept the properties of the material and precisely associate the actions, materials, and spaces. These sculptural and site-specific artworks are spontaneously created every day.

I keep questioning people’s ways of looking at things and trying to bring the daily common things that we take for granted into sharper focus.I’m always fascinated by movements of objects within the space that surrounds them, which seem sculptural in our daily life. Everyday life is a massive database of imagery that I must mine and make visible in my work.

By trying to build a layer which exists in between abstract definition and embodied reality with different materials, I want to let people slow down, pause a little bit, have a second look to the common thing around us and start to refresh their perceptions of those familiar things in an unexpected and uncanny way.
