FIONA ADAMSON

Fio Adamson is a 3D artist working in sculpture and installation.  She combines contrasting materials to accentuate meaning and the properties of each.

Fio is interested in the relationship between the current climate crisis (with its accompanying emergency of  numerous extinctions); the emotions that a potential apocalypse evokes, and the challenge to the accepted order by those who face it but refuse to give in to it.  She is inspired by the enormous creativity and courage evoked and the human instinct to collaborate in a crisis.

Fio takes part in the actions to stop climate change both in her personal life and as an artist.  Recycling found objects and using newly discovered or rediscovered materials  (e.g. potato starch film and raw fleece) are important in her work.  She is an ongoing active member of Extinction Rebellion, making collaborative artwork, facilitating Listening Circles and being involved in street rebellions.

Having been invited to be part of the Dogma 19 group of artists for Immurement, experimenting with concrete and cement, Fio agreed.  While working with these materials Fio was shocked to remember their toxicity but decided to continue with the work.   She has aimed to remind others of this in her new piece for this group and point out to the viewer the poison both of misogyny and of commonly used building materials.
